WELCOME TO THE WEB SITE OF

FRIENDS OF MAPLEDURHAM PLAYING FIELDS.

Mapledurham Playing Fields are located within the Caversham Heights area on the Oxon/Berks border.  Click on the map for greater clarity (this may take a little time to open-up).

The Friends group was set-up in the autumn of 1999 with assistance from Reading Borough Council's Environmental Outreach Officer, Tina Gower.  We eventually settled for a fairly generic constitution with a focus on improving the environment for wildlife and the public.  The work parties commenced in October of 1999 - we have a Management Plan that, should be attempt all its' aspects, will take 20 years to complete.

Achievements to date: Initially this seemed to be all about wood chipping paths, but we have subsequently created woodland glades, constructed dead hedges and planted many new trees, shrubs and flowers.

Important Dates:  The work parties meet every third Saturday of the month throughout Autumn and Spring, and some months during the summer.  See schedule for details of these and other events

Since April 2001 we have completed quarterly Small Mammal Surveys.
